The new year is a time when we all begin to think about what we’d like to change and improve in our lives. It’s a great time to reflect on what has been and become hopeful about what can become, in our future.
So much of our new year’s resolutions are taken up with creating new and more positive habits and I thought it’s a good time to help out with some tips on how to create lasting and sustainable healthy habits.
Tips for creating great exercising habits
- Create a long term goal to be healthier rather than a short term goal just to loose weight
- Choose an exercise that you love. If it’s hard work you wont keep it up. It must be fun!
- Exercise with a friend or a dog, they are a great incentive when you just don’t’ feel like it.
- Every day is a new opportunity to make healthy choices! Wipe the slate clean each night and start each day fresh!
Tips for creating great Eating habits
Never deny yourself, it simply creates tension and tension will eventually win out over will power
Add healthy foods to your diet, there’s a whole world of health and delicious food out there waiting to be discovered!
Notice how you feel (around 30mnutes) after eating certain foods, let your body guide your eating choices next time.
Remember every day is a new day to make healthy choices!
Tips for creating great Thinking habits
Acknowledge your thoughts, good, bad or indifferent. They are all normal and do not determine who you are or what you do.
Ask yourself ‘does this thought help me to become a better person’ if the answer is no then choose a new thought that will support you.
Learn to master your thoughts. They are the foundations for all of your decision and actions!
Take time each day to be grateful for what you have and recognise the positives in your life, both within you and around you.
